Luas commuters are facing major delays after a van smashed into a tram this morning.

The collision happened on the Red Line at Smithfield. A witness told Dublin Live: "The traffic light turned red and the van changed lanes from left to right and continued on the red light. The Luas was going towards Dublin city centre and got struck by it."

A Luas spokesperson said Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of this disruption. They added: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Luas services still operating with delays

Delays still remain on Red Line services following a crash at Smithfield earlier.

A Luas spokesperson has apologised for the inconvenience.

Luas updates

Luas services are operating from Tallaght/Saggart - Blackhorse only, There is currently no service between Blackhorse-The Point/Connolly.

A spokesperson said: "Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of this disruption, we apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Luas crash update

Queen Street is currently blocked after a van crashed into a Luas in Smithfield.

In other news, all lanes have reopened now on the M50 northbound after Junct11 Tallaght. The collision in the right lane has been cleared and the breakdown which was in the left lane has moved to the hard shoulder.

Van crashes into Luas

Luas commuters are facing major delays after a van smashed into a tram this morning.

A Luas spokesperson said: "Passengers, please be advised Red Line services are operating with delays due to a RTA at Smithfield. Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of this disruption, we apologise for any inconvenience caused."

A witness told Dublin Live: "The traffic light turned red and the van changed lanes from left to right and continued on the red light. The Luas was going towards Dublin city centre and got struck by it."

Major delays on the M50

M50 northbound is now solid from Junction 13 Dundrum to Junction 10 Ballymount due to the two incidents after J11 Tallaght. Gardaí are on the scene but traffic is passing very slowly.

Separately, the on-ramp at J9 Red Cow has reopened.

A crash on the M50 has been reported on the northbound motorway after Junction 11 Tallaght in the right lane.

It's about 30 metres before the earlier breakdown
