PUTRAJAYA: Now that PKR is part of the government, it is crucial for its leaders to stay grounded, as they now have a new responsibility to the people who are yearning for change, says PKR Information Chief Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said this year was the first year PKR held its annual national congress at a comfortable venue.

"It is a surreal experience because, as Rafizi Ramli mentioned, this might be quite a comfortable national congress compared to before.

"But it was also a mature and enlightening experience. The top leadership also reminded us that being part of Putrajaya does not mean we can distribute the spoils of war, as we have a responsibility to the people expecting big changes," said Fahmi.

Fahmi said it was a victory for the unity government to enter its first anniversary of administration because it meant political stability had been achieved.

"This is a big victory that isn’t mentioned by any political analysts or studies. This is the most stable government, maybe in the previous five years," Fahmi told reporters after the PKR national congress concluded.

Fahmi said that PKR’s strategy was about proving cynics wrong.

"We have always defied the odds, and if analysts say it's impossible, we will strive towards it.

"It took us 25 years to reach Putrajaya, and based on that experience, we can prove the naysayers wrong," said Fahmi.

Fahmi said it was important for PKR leaders to stay focused and not be affected by a few negative views.

"At the same time, ensure that criticisms by our grassroots must be taken into account to ensure that no voices are left behind," added Fahmi.

The PKR national congress, which began on Saturday (Nov 25), concluded on Sunday (Nov 26) with a winding up speech by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as party president.
