JOIN speaks at the EU Road Safety Conference 2024 in Dublin

On 16th April, our Chairman, Mark Broughton, attended the EU Road Safety Conference in Dublin. He spoke to the attendees about the importance of learning first aid and being able to help at the scene of a road traffic accident, where delaying resuscitation by one minute reduces survival by 10%. Participants of the Conference presented on road safety measurers and policy, on the goal to halve road deaths by 2030, and the impact of road traffic accidents. JOIN Fundraising Working Group meets in Paris

On 12th April, our Fundraising Working Group was hosted by our French member in Paris. The agenda included discussion on the European Social Fund, the Johanniter-Weihnachtstrucker organised since 1993 by Johanniter Germany, Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) Reporting, institutional donor funding programmes and an update by the St John Eye Hospital on the situation in Gaza and the whole region. JOIN Clinical Working Group meets in Paris

Our Clinical Working Group met in Paris on 13th and 14th April to develop new projects. The medical doctors finalised a manuscript including illustrations of a third story teaching basic first aid to children (two stories are already available on www.firstaidjoin.org). The Clinical Working Group also started to review its European First Aid Guidelines published in 2019 for updates in light of latest medical protocols. Continue reading

JOIN Boardmeets online

On 4th April, the JOIN Board met online. Participants were our Chairman Mark Broughton, our Vice-Chairman Christian Velten-Jameson (France), Andrew Grech (Malta), Friederike von Bar (Germany) and Dr Sarah Vecchione (Italy). The Board discussed the Annual General Meeting in May, as well as the meetings of the working groups in the coming months. Our Board also reviewed the first replies to the survey that was sent to each member organisation to gather expectations on the future direction of JOIN. Continue reading

On 19th April, Federal Board member of Johanniter Unfall-Hilfe, Christian Meyer-Landrut, visited Johanniter Netherland’s director Lidwien van der Reep in The Hague for a catch-up. Both served as Board members of Johanniter International from 2020 to 2023. Continue reading

Germany: Director of Johanniter International Assistance in Ukraine

What is the current situation for the people in Ukraine after two years of war? What have Johanniter and its partners been able to achieve so far, and where will our future involvement be particularly important? With these questions in mind, Susanne Wesemann, Director of Johanniter International Assistance, travelled to Ukraine together with Florian Beck, the responsible programme officer, and Adam McKerrow, Johanniter Head of Mission Ukraine. Their first stop was Odessa, where they visited our partner NEW DAWN and the people in the villages around Mykolaiv. Further meetings took place with their partner ELEOS in and around Kyiv to obtain additional information about the situation of locals and staff and discuss how to meet mental needs.

Join our Swedish member at the Sweden Rock Festival

Johanniterhjälpen invites you to Norje, outside the city of Sölvesborg by the Baltic Sea, to join their team in providing First Aid at the Sweden Rock Festival from 5th to 8th June. Six volunteers can participate and experience one of the most important rock and metal festivals in the world, with 35,000 annual visitors from more than 50 different countries. Join our German member at the Berlin Marathon

The Johanniter regional association of Berlin will be providing medical services at the Berlin Marathon in September. The famous marathon offers runners one of the largest running stages in the world. You can join the teams in Berlin for the event, when around 45,000 runners get the city moving.
