26-28 June 2024;’Change and Continuity’, 30 Years of FACE, University of Sussex Celebrating the 30th anniversary of FACE, the conference will reflect on the ever-changing landscape of widening access and participation - capturing collective expertise as we adapt to changes in government priorities, the education landscape, and a fast-paced technological revolution - what lessons can we learn and how we can collectively shape the future of our sector. The annual FACE conference once again creates a space for learning, sharing and discussion. Proposals for papers are open - from everyone, including practitioners, researchers, and those working in collaborative partnership. Papers may draw on: Best practice projects in the field of widening access and participation. *Such a resonance!* We are absolutely overwhelmed by the number of submissions for contributions we have received: 385! This means our conference board (https://lnkd.in/e8qtwG23) will have their work cut out for them to make a selection. Everyone who submitted a contribution will be notified of the board's decision by the beginning of May. *Panel announcement: ‘Navigating uncharted waters: Pathways of an ITD career’* This diverse panel chaired by assistant professor at Delft University of Technology BinBin Pearce, includes researchers at different stages of their careers, and will discuss the realities of living out a professional life within an ITD field, highlighting the delicate balance between creativity and risk. The discussion will extend beyond academia, exploring pathways within and outside the traditional academic structure. Panellists will share unique experiences, offering a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted ITD career trajectory, and address crucial questions about fostering ITD curricula integration and creating more positions for researchers within academia and at the science-society interface. CONFERENCE CONCURRENT SESSION: Introducing our 2023 Conference Presenter Dr. Karen Szydlik (Schaller). We are so excited to welcome Karen to our 2023 Conference to present the Concurrent Session, ‘What are you curious about now? Participating in an emergent arts-based research inquiry.’ About the session: This workshop will be emergent and experiential. Participants will inquire into a “curiosity” that is “alive” for them in the present ; that has emerged for them as a “wonder” through their participation at the conference. They will be asked “what are you curious about” and then with guidance, employ a range of creative processes and procedures (languages) to come to know more about “their curiosity”, that is, they will co-research. This workshop will give the participants the chance to experience many ways of coming to know – through representation, movement and words: the poetic and the lyrical. Participants will be given the space and opportunity to co create, collaborate, and consider. The aim is to be reflective, joyful, playful, and curious. No prior experience is needed, this is a workshop for everybody. The box belong is not working for me . Session outcomes: Delegates will experience researching into a topic using different modes. With the experience of this as a genuine way to come to know about something, it is hoped delegates will embrace this way of working with children and attempt it in their contexts. For those who are already familiar with this way of working it will be an opportunity to take some time to reflect on the emerging content of the conference and inquire into their curiosities and consider what they will do with what they now know.
