Two killed in Sibu after 4WD crashes into them

SIBU: Two men died after a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle veered out of control and crashed into them near the Sibu-Bintulu flyover at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here on Friday (Dec 15).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the victims were doing maintenance work on roadside lamp posts at 11.20am.

"A 4WD from the direction of Sibu Jaya to the town, driven by a 60-year-old man, lost control and (swerved) into the opposite side of the road. It happened that the two victims were there," he said.

The vehicle then rammed into the duo, headded.

ACP Zulkipli said one victim, a 59-year-old, died on the spot while the other man, 27, was rushed to the hospital. He succumbed to his injuries later.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
