Perfect starter or small shop saw
I needed something that was smaller, to fit in my smaller space, but had decent features and safety for me to learn on. This saw seems to fit the bill. I had been looking at the 12", but when the 8 1/4 came out this Summer, I got it immediately. The blade is decent, and the saw is more than powerful enough. I was able to rip a rubber wood butcher block with no issues, and no burning. I will upgrade to a Diablo blade soon enough, though.The table I built to house it just makes things that much nicer. A wider wing, and a decent outfeed length will make this a tool I will keep around for years to come.

Overall, I love this table saw, though I don't use it often. When I do need to use it, it checks all the boxes for me. I've had it for three years, and used it for three or four projects. However, in the middle of my current project, it suddenly stopped spinning the blade. It was out of warranty, but during my investigation of the issue, I found it had no oil in the gear case! As in, it had NEVER had oil in the gear case, which I consider a manufacturing defect. Customer support was no help (as I said, out of warranty) so I had to rebuild the worm drive. It's impressive that it lasted in light usage for three years with no oil, but if you get a new one, check for oil in the gear case. It's in the maintenance section of the manual (that last pages) - not the first thing you read but it can save you a big hassle with a small effort.

I currently have a DeWalt Table Saw (DWE7485). I just replaced it with this one (SPT99T-01) because the DeWalt won't take dado blades. The Skil does (up to 1/2"). I'm impressed that the design seems well thought out - storage of the mitre, push stick, wrenches, cord wrap, and even the safety guard & pawls. My only suggestion to Skil would be to add storage for the insert so that if you're using a second one (zero-clearance or dado inserts), there would be a place to keep them.

Out of the box, everything was properly aligned - blade was at 90 degrees, fence & riving knife were straight, and everything was tight. After cutting dados all day (4"x4" fence posts), I'm very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend for a home workshop.

I would have given 5 stars except for three things: 1) the miter gauge is sloppy in the slot like most tablesaws. I ordered an Incra miter gauge and problem solved 2) there is no bevel adjustment wheel. When you release the bevel lock the weight of the motor swings toward the 45° bevel position. You have to hold it to adjust the bevel to the desired angle. It's a compact saw so I guess there wasn't room for a bevel adjustment worm gear. 3) there are three fence positions: left, right1, and right2. The fence was supposed to be squared at the factory but it was not square to the blade in right1. I checked first to make sure the blade was square to the table then made the easy adjustment to square the fence.
Overall it's a great saw and a perfect size for my small workshop. At 74 I don't breakdown full size sheet goods anymore and don't need a larger tablesaw.

UPDATE: Another reviewer said the fence was not square vertically. I checked mine and it's out of square. The book offers no adjustment. I'll try to figure it out. Also, the table is not even close to dead flat like it should be. If I'd known this immediately after receiving it I would have returned it.

I love the saw, fence is awesome, power. My single issue is alignment of the blade to the top plate. Plenty of reviews here that highlight the good stuff. I will focus on just the alignment of blade.
2 clamps hold the motor housing in place which is how blade alignment should happen. Issue is is its off a bit like mine its not really an adjustment that works. Even using clamps I cant get it to square, once bolts are tightened its back to off square which causes issue with riving knife and throat alignment. I suspect I have little option but to return it. I did cut several boards of hard maple and its pretty awesome on power and fence smoothness. *****Contacted Skil, they sent a replacement saw. Customer support is way better than expected. New saw has motor housing aligned right out of box! Impressive support Skil!

Simple, Buy it if your looking for a job site saw. I have only used for about 10 days. I have been doing this since the early 1970's. This has the best locking fence system. I have a EXACTA Fence on my Jet, and accurate when dialed in. I still measure with this saw but the gear drive fence. it's width capability, it's power. safety features, impressive. Comes with the Rivet on. Could be spelling wrong. I haven't used all the stuff now put on saws, but this feature doesn't get in the way, and I can see were it could assist in safety. The saw, the worm drive motor so far A+. I got the 8! 1/4" It's sturdy construction, yet light enough to pick up and put in the back of the truck. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Bosch 10" Still have, need to repair. It has the lift. Most of the time I never used up. Not easy for one guy to put in the truck. This skil saw I already have 3 features on it, that I don't just like better but love better. This saw you cam get a lift. But the rubber cushions on the bottom of the frame on the corners, really grip my only 2x4 table. I was ripping 10' long 2x10, the saw stayed sturdy with no support. I will build a tray like system to assure this, but I love it. THe push stick. the miter, gauge small but fine. I knew what size I was buying. I don't need a saw that is close to the same footprint as my Jst cabinet saw. I can rip 40" wide on that. If I still has a dozen men on the payroll I think I would still have 3 of these. Maybe one 10" for larger complete homes. Very happy. Powerful bugger, great fence, I LOVE it.
