JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in the state has increased, reaching 7,511 people at 4pm compared to 6,564 people at 8am on Monday (Jan 8).

In a statement, the state disaster management committee said that most victims are at Kota Tinggi, with 4,397 people at 26 temporary relief centres.

“As of 4pm, 7,511 flood victims from 2,108 families were placed at 50 relief centres in six districts.

“The highest number of victims is at Kota Tinggi with 4,397 people, followed by Kluang (1,680), Johor Baru (1,271), Kulai (86), Segamat (60), and Pontian (17),” it said.

The relief centres with the highest number of evacuees were Dewan Raya Taman Kota Jaya in Tenggara, with 376 people; followed by SK Bukit Mutiara, with 354 people and Dewan Kampung Maju Jaya, with 350 people in Tebrau.

There are now nine closed roads in four districts: Kota Tinggi, Johor Baru, Segamat, and Mersing.

The closed roads in Kota Tinggi are Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang, Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kulai, Jalan Tai Hong (Taman Scientex), Jalan Tai Hong (Jambatan Kecil), Jalan Mawai Lama and Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing.

The other closed roads are Jalan Maju Jaya-Seelong in Johor Baru, Jalan Jabi-Bukit Tempurung in Segamat and Jalan Tanah Abang in Mersing.

“Five rivers in the state are still recording dangerous levels. They are Sungai Kahang in Kluang; Sungai Siam in Kulai; and Sungai Johor (Rantau Panjang), Sungai Kepala Orang, and Sungai Johor (near Kota Tinggi town) in Kota Tinggi,” it added.
