Abstract
The Mw 7.8 Turkiye earthquake of 6 February 2023 has claimed over 50,000 human lives in Turkey and Syria and has caused immense financial losses. Earthquakes of Mw ≥ 7 are usually followed by several aftershocks. Aftershocks of Mw 5 and larger can cause further damage to already weaken structures and even claim human lives. The duration of occurrence of such aftershocks can be estimated using Omori’s Law. We estimate that Mw ≥ 5 aftershocks of the 6 February 2023 Turkiye earthquake shall continue for ~ 250 days.
