AGC to object to Syed Saddiq's application for leave over constituency funds

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) will object to Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's application for leave to commence judicial review over his claims that the government had pulled its allocation meant for his constituency in Muar.

Senior Federal Counsel Ahmad Hanir Hambaly confirmed the matter on Monday (May 6).

The case was brought up for review before High Court deputy registrar Nurliyana Mohd Jafri on Monday.

Syed Saddiq, the Muar MP, filed the application for leave on April 23, along with three voters in his constituency.

The other three are Najib Abu Nawar, Mohd Bakirudin Abdullah and Muhamad Fadzly Bisri.

Najid is the chairperson of a parent-teacher association at a school in Muar, while Mohd Bakiruddin and Muhamad Fadzly are imams and chairpersons from two different surau in the constituency.

They named the Prime Minister and the government the first and second respondents.

The applicants sought a certiorari order to quash a decision by the respondents that halted the balance of RM500,000 from RM1.7mil in total that was supposed to be channelled directly to the Muar public service centre.

The funds were meant to cover the expenses of welfare programmes for the Muar constituents.

The applicants are also seeking Syed Saddiq's reinstatement of his access to the myKHAS system, which he claims the respondents revoked.

In the supporting affidavit, affirmed by Syed Saddiq, the parliamentarian said that on Sept 10, last year, Muda had decided to pull its support from the unity government led by the first respondent.

Shortly after the announcement, Syed Saddiq claimed that the RM500,000 balance in his allocation was stopped or revoked.

He said the allocation was meant to fix public amenities like schools and surau.

The applicants are also seeking damages, relief and costs.
