Ministry seized over RM6mil worth of goods in Perak last year

IPOH: About RM6.2mil worth of items including controlled goods were seized by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in the state last year.

The ministry's Perak director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the items seized were diesel, oil pumps, hoses, intermediate bulk container tanks, vehicles, food, brand stickers and sportswear.

The items, he said, were seized during Ops Tiris 1.0 and 2.0, which were carried out between March 1 and Dec 31 last year.

"From a total of 783 inspections, 56 cases were related to diesel.

"About 90% or about RM5.5mil from the total value seized consisted of 275,406 litres of diesel, related equipment and vehicles," he said during a press conference at the ministry's exhibit warehouse at the IGB Industrial Area in Tasek here on Tuesday (Jan 16).

Kamalludin said the ministry will intensify its enforcement this year.

"In Ops Tiris 3.0, we will beef up our enforcement efforts to deal with leakages and the abuse of subsidies.

"From Jan 1 to 12, we have opened 34 cases of various offences that involved, among others, the confiscation of controlled items like diesel and liquefied petroleum gas.

"The value of the seizure was about RM1.9mil," he added.
