When it comes to upskilling for the digital age, the truth is - 📍 You don't need a specific course to learn from or a certificate to showcase credibility. Future skills are something that needs to be cultivated early on, since school days. The only way to test it is by knowing how one handles challenges, works with others, and applies his skills. The World Economic Forum says, by 2025, machines can take over 85 million job roles from humans. You must have a few skills (not taught in schools/colleges) to avoid getting sidelined by technology. 7 skills that one must learn before entering the corporate world are: 1️⃣ Emotional Intelligence This means understanding and validating emotions. As automation takes on transactional roles, we need to identify and express emotions. Goleman's study proved that people with higher EQs would perform better than those with a high IQ. 2️⃣ Personal Finance Every individual should learn to budget, save, and invest wisely. Often, this is something professionals learn when they start earning. It is critical to learn and avoid hasty decisions. 3️⃣ Critical thinking Workplace automation will keep increasing. Therefore, the need to solve complex problems and make sound judgements will be vital. Critical thinking can help you weigh evidence, examine perspectives, and make rational decisions. 4️⃣ Negotiation This empowers anyone to navigate complex online interactions. But negotiations also help you make informed decisions and find win-win solutions. 5️⃣ Conscious knowledge consumption We live in the age of information overload. It's essential to have a subjective mindset when it comes to knowledge consumption. Also, be objective when it comes to making decisions. 6️⃣ Adaptability Business landscapes are changing at a rapid speed, and individuals must constantly upskill. Additionally, they need to pivot strategies without resistance. In honesty, there's actually no alternative to being adaptable. 7️⃣ Curiosity Unconventional problems require unconventional solutions.
