Why this petition matters

This petition comes from a deeply personal place, as I am a resident of Sunshine VIC, Australia and an active member of our vibrant community. The proposed upgrades to the JR Parsons Recreation Reserve, including improvements to the tennis pavilion and a new football/cricket pavilion, are not just about enhancing our sporting facilities. They represent an investment in our collective wellbeing and recreational opportunities. Sunshine Park Tennis Club has been neglected and denied funding for years. The building was built in the 1960's and is in a desperate need of an upgrade.

The Brimbank Council's decision to withdraw these upgrades after plans were finalised, has left many of us feeling disappointed and let down. The JR Parsons Recreation Reserve is more than just a sports ground - it's where we come together as a community, where friendships are formed over friendly games of cricket or tennis.

According to data from VicHealth (Victorian Health Promotion Foundation), regular involvement in community sports can lead to improved mental wellbeing, increased sense of belonging and higher levels of physical health among participants. By reinstating these upgrades, Brimbank Council would be making a significant contribution towards improving public health outcomes for Sunshine residents.

We urge the Brimbank Council not only to reconsider their decision but also recognise that these improvements will serve as an invaluable resource for current residents while attracting future generations who value strong community ties and healthy living options. Please sign this petition if you believe in investing in our community's health, happiness, and unity through sport.
