Next-gen Dodge Charger & Challenger muscle cars to be pure-electric models only

According to a media report, Dodge has confirmed that the next generation Charger and Challenger offerings will lose their V8 engines and be offered with pure-electric powertrains only. The two cars are also expected to be underpinned by a new platform. Both models will make their debut in 2024.

However, according to a media report, the arrival of the electric versions of the Dodge Charger and Challenger doesn't mean the immediate end of combustion engines. It is speculated that the new BEV models could co-exist with the current offerings for a short period of time.

Last year, Dodge announced its plans to introduce an electric muscle car. The company is said to unveil the concept version of its first electric-muscle car in the coming weeks.

Apart from the all-electric Charger and Challenger models, Dodge is also working on the electric version of its RAM, 1500 which is expected to be unveiled in the near future.

Good for them Dodge is known for its poor reliability and low engine life.

This is very strange, I had read a Motortrend article that claimed the exact opposite!

If they do lose the V8 in the end, the hemi (especially the hellcat) will still die a hero, singing the supercharged swan song of the internal combustion engine.

Am not buying this news from Motor1. While I do believe the Charger & Challenger might / will offer an electric option, there will always be demand for petrol power. Once EVs go mainstream, you can skip offering ICE options in your regular commuter hatchback or crossover, but a petrol option is mandatory for certain breeds of cars (muscle cars, sports cars, offroaders). It's why Ferrari will always offer a petrol option, even when their line-up is filled with EVs.

Re: Next-gen Dodge Charger & Challenger muscle cars to be pure-electric models only

Dodge will end Charger and Challenger production with seven "Last Call" Models.

Quote:
The Dodge Charger and Challenger as we know them are not long for this world. Electric muscle and a new high output inline 6 may be on the way, but whatever comes next for Dodge's two marquee nameplates will look nothing like the current V-8 beasts. That makes 2023 the final model year of the muscle cars that defines what Dodge keeps calling its "Brotherhood of Muscle," so it's time to celebrate with commemorative editions. Many commemorative editions.

Dodge has announced that its "Last Call" for the Charger and Challenger will take the form of seven unique new special edition models, plus a few additional goodies spread out among the rest of the lineup. The headliners are the new special editions, set to be unveiled later this year. Six of these special editions, each with reveal dates not yet announced, represent a connection to "an iconic Dodge model from the past." A seventh and final car will bow at SEMA in November; that one is being billed as "the last of its kind." For now, these Chargers and Challengers are being displayed under car covers that hint at the identities of the models underneath.
