Opening programme

CAM reopens to the public on 20th September 2024 with an extensive and varied opening programme. This includes performances, talks, guided tours, workshops and five major exhibitions, some of them inaugurating new exhibition spaces in the building.

The main gallery features an exhibition by Portuguese artist Leonor Antunes, presenting an immersive installation that responds to the architectonic specificity of the building. The project intends to question the invisibility of women in the canon of modern art history, and will also feature an extensive selection of works by women artists from CAM’s Collection.

‘Tide Line’ is an exhibition of works from CAM’s Collection that will be shown in the Collection Gallery for two years, featuring over 90 works of different artistic disciplines. The exhibition starts from the 25 April Revolution and extends to the present day, reflecting on other ongoing revolutions, especially those related to the state of the planet.

An exhibition of Portuguese-Brazilian artist Fernando Lemos will explore his relationship with Japan in the 1960s.  His drawings and photographs, most of which have never be seen in Portugal, will feature alongside works by other artists from CAM’s Collection and Japanese prints from the Gulbenkian Museum Collection.

Japan will also be present in a live arts programme that happens throughout the opening weekend. Some of the events in this programme are part of the ‘Engawa – A season of contemporary art from Japan‘, which CAM started in July 2023. This includes exhibitions by Go Watanabe and Yasuhiro Morinaga.

The full programme will be announced shortly.
