Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P) students received as many as 413 jobs with the maximum pay package of Rs 82 lakh per annum in 2023. This is the second consecutive academic session in which IIT-P students have received over 400 job offers. Now in a significant development, as many as 14 faculty members from the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P), and five from the National Institute of Technology-Patna (NIT-P) have featured among the world's top 2% scientists on a list created by Stanford University, United States, for the year 2023. The list, published by Elsevier based on bibliometric data from the Scopus database and includes over 180,000 researchers worldwide. This is the first time that faculty members from NIT-P have made it to the list. Stanford University releases data for the top 2% of researchers across the world every year based on their research publications. It is published by the reputed publishing company - Elsevier. This ranking, which is considered the most prestigious in the world, is based on bibliometric data in the Scopus database and includes more than 180,000 researchers from more than 8 million scientists worldwide who are considered active, with 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields taken into account. 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐒 (𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦) I would like to share my recent experience working as an undergraduate fellow at iHUB DivyaSampark @ IIT Roorkee. I worked on 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰 at intersections using Deep Reinforcement Learning for traffic signal control. Reinforcement Learning is a promising field for optimizing complex mathematical functions, and traffic signal control has also been shown to be an optimization problem. We decided to improve the following metrics (and later found they were somehow correlated): 1. 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐮𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 2. 𝐂𝐮𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 3. 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 We came up with a custom agent based on extensive research. Thorough testing and benchmarking followed, where we covered a large space of State Space and Reward, trying out all the possibilities from previous papers and our own propositions. We were able to improve on all the above metrics while having a sane sample space that can be practically acquired with the help of traffic cameras. In 2023 (as at 9 Aug 2023): ✅ Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS has published, on average, more papers than any other university in Malaysia. ✅UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PAHANG was second, and the highest ranked public university. Previous Analysis In my last few posts, I have been looking at which universities have published the most papers since 2018-2023 (so 5.5 years). The number of papers were normalised by the number of staff. All data was taken from Scopus: an eye on global research. It is okay writing about the last 5.5 years, but is the status right now? That is, what is happening in 2023? The graphic below shows this. It is not surprising (and good to see) that the five (public) Research Universities are in the top ten, although we might want to discuss the order in which they appear. UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PAHANG is actually the top ranked public university (as they were between 2018-2023) which might surprise some people, but it is good to see that this institution is doing better than most (I expect) would expect. For the private universities (noting that the Foreign Branch Campuses are not included in this analysis) Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS comes out on top, which is also the same for the 2018-2023 analysis. ... and finally I hope that you have found this mini-series useful/interesting and I thank you for the engagement received so far (which was a lot more than expected). RIMS can also have a platform from where information on Human Resources, physical capital and knowledge capital can be accessed. Ramgovind Group college will also create a portal on Institutional Research Information and Institutional Repository and sign a MoU with UGC- INFLIBNET to access and upload the research information through Shodh Ganga, Shodh Gangotri, Shodh Sindhu, Shodh Shuddhi, and Shodh Chakra. RDC will undertake regular initiatives to ensure that researchers understand the importance of integrity and ethics and comply with ethical codes of research and publishing practices at Institutional, National, and Global levels. All papers will go through a standard plagiarism check and necessary software will be made available for all researchers. RDCs will organize various events such as workshops, group discussions forums, seminars, conferences, refresher courses, training, internships etc. regularly for capacity building. It will also pave the way for HEI to attract more research grants under norm-based funding, improve its accreditation ranking and enhance its brand image. .
