Vada Pav / Batata Vada Pav Recipe

Today I am going to share with you the most popular recipe of Mumbai - Vada Pav. People also called it Batata Vada. So, lets start with ingredients. 

Ingredients for Vada Pav / Batata Vada:

  1. Boiled Potato - 1/2 kg
  2. Black Mustard Seed - 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin Seed - 1/2 tsp
  4. Curry Leaves 
  5. Green Chilli - 5-6 
  6. Garlic Cloves -10-12
  7. Red Chilli - 3-4 
  8. Coriander Leaves 
  9. Ginger - 3 inch
  10. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp 
  11. Salt as per taste
  12. Besan - 1 cup 
  13. Red Chilli Powder -1 tsp 
  14. Ajwain - 1/2 tsp
  15. Oil 

Step by Step Procedure for Vada Pav Preparation: 

Aloo Bonda Preparation for Vada Pav:

Take 500 grams potatoes and wash it properly. Now we have to boil it. So, take a bowl and keep it on the stove to boil the potatoes in it. Keep checking if the potatoes are properly boiled. It must not be over boiled otherwise it will wasted.  Now, keep it in bowl till until it cools down. Then, peel of the boiled potatoes. Next thing to do is to mash the potatoes properly. 


Put a pan on the stove and put 1 tbsp oil in it. After heating the oil, put 1/2 tsp black mustard seed, 1/2 tsp cumin seed, and curry leaves. Now, lightly fry all these till it starts crackling. Then, put crushed green chilli and garlic cloves in it. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder. 


At the last, put the mashed boiled potatoes and some salt as per taste in it and mix it well. Then, lightly fry it for 3 to 4 minutes on slow flame. After cooling it down, make small balls out of it. 

Besan Batter preparation for Vada Pav:

Put 1 cup besan in a bowl. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp ajwain, and some water to make batter with ribbon consistency. 

Heat some oil in a frypan to fry the potatoes balls which we have prepared in the previous step. After heating the oil, dip the potatoes balls in the batter and fry them in the oil till golden colour.  

Dry Red Chutney preparation for Vada Pav:

Take 1 spoon batter and make some bundis. Also fry 4-5 red chillis, 5-6 garlic cloves in the oil. After they cool down, put them in mixer grinder with some salt and grind them well. 

Green Chutney preparation for Vada Pav:

Take coriander leaves, 2-3 green chilli, 1 inch ginger, 5-6 cloves of garlic, salt, and little water in a mixer grinder and make chutney. 

Serving of Vada Pav:

Take a Pav Bread and slice it in the middle.Now, apply green chutney and put one potato vada inside the sliced pav bread. Next, apply red chutney inside the sliced Pav Bread. Now, the Vada Pav is ready to be served.
