Extend the Renewal Period for Low-Skill Work Visas in New Zealand
Extend the Renewal Period for Low-Skill Work Visas in New Zealand
Why this petition matters
As a Licensed Immigration Adviser, I have noticed a growing concern among migrant workers and businesses alike. The current immigration policy that requires low-skill work visa holders to leave New Zealand after their visa expires is causing significant disruption. This policy not only affects the lives of these workers but also hampers the operations of businesses that rely on their skills.
Migrant workers come to New Zealand with hopes of building a better life for themselves and their families. However, having to leave every two-three years is unsettling and creates unnecessary stress. For businesses, this means losing trained employees and facing the cost and time-consuming process of hiring new ones.
Moreover, according to Statistics NZ (2020), migrant workers contribute significantly to our economy - they fill essential roles in sectors such as agriculture, hospitality, and construction where local labor is insufficient. Disrupting this workforce can lead to potential economic setbacks.
We propose an amendment in immigration policies - extending the renewal period for low-skill work visas or allowing renewals every three years without requiring migrants to leave the country. This change will provide stability for migrant families while ensuring continuity for businesses relying on their skills.
We urge you to consider this proposal seriously as it affects many lives directly or indirectly associated with these migrant workers. Please sign this petition if you believe in fair immigration policies that benefit everyone involved.
