The annual inflation rate in Qatar eased to 2.7% in February 2024 from January’s six-month high of 3.0%, due to a slowdown in culture & recreation amid faster drops in housing and transport prices. Prices of culture & recreation prices moderated (16.6% vs 23.2% in January) while accelerating for both food (6.6% vs 5.2%) and communication (3.8% vs 3.6%). Prices fell further for transportation (-0.6% vs -0.1%), housing & utilities (-3.9% vs -2.3%), restaurants & hotels (-0.6% vs -1.4%), and clothing & footwear prices shrank further (-1.7% vs -6.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices shrank by 0.3% in February, the second straight month of decline, after a 1.3% drop in the prior month.

Qatar Inflation Rate at 6-Month High of 3%
The annual inflation rate in Qatar increased to 3.0% in January 2024 from 1.7% in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since last July, with food prices rising the most in 17 months (5.2% (vs 4.6% in December 2023), while culture & recreation prices advanced faster (23.2% vs 11.9%). Meanwhile, communication prices continued to increase (3.6% vs 16.6% in December 2023). Simultaneously, prices dropped less for transportation (-0.1% vs -1.4%), housing & utilities (-2.3% vs -2.9%), and restaurants & hotels (-1.4% vs -10.8%). On the other hand, clothing & footwear prices shrank further (-6.1% vs -4.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 1.3% in January, the first decline in five months, reversing from a 1.6% rise in the prior month.
