Perceptive Equine Therapy is the experiential practice of combining equine therapy modalities with traditional talk and trauma therapy modalities (CBT, IFS, Somatic, Narrative). Intended for licensed and temp licensed equine counselors, therapists, social workers and psychologists.

Rather than using a one-size-fits-all equine approach, this training seeks to empower clinicians to use their vast experience and education to build a perception-focused eclectic plan during sessions in order to provide the best outcome for the client(s). This two and a half day training will be experienced on a farm with horses on site, where participants will learn how to use equine therapeutic interventions in conjunction with therapeutic modalities thought to just exist in an office setting.

Program objectives (participants will):

  • Increase knowledge of how to incorporate traditional therapeutic techniques in an individual and group equine setting
  • Recognize and assess group think and adjust therapeutic interventions as necessary
  • Learn how to prepare barn/herd managers for best therapeutic outcomes for clients
  • Summarize specific ways to combine therapeutic interventions and modalities
  • Take away actionable interventions and activities designed to incorporate different therapeutic modalities in one session
  • Deepen their understanding of equine non-verbal communication
  • Learn equine herd behavior and survival characteristics and when they show up with clients
