We provide specialist palliative care to people with life limiting illness

Story

Willen Hospice is the only adult Hospice in the local area, supporting people in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas who have been given a devastating prognosis. Our specialist palliative care services help them with every aspect of their life, including clinical care, therapy and wellbeing and social care. Whatever their illness, whether it's cancer or heart failure, or more complex such as Motor Neurone Disease or Dementia, Willen Hospice will be there for them and their family.

This care is provided completely free of charge and is only partially funded by the NHS, which means we heavily rely on the support and generosity from our local community to help raise the additional £5.9 million needed every year.

Now for my story:

My nan sadly passed away in 2012 and my grandad in 2023. Willen looked after them both but also massively supported me throughout the grieving process as a young child and helped me to feel comfortable visiting. When my nan passed away I was only young and the process of it all was rather scary, visiting a family member who used to run around and take you to the beach as a child, now suddenly bed ridden and barely able to talk is so scary. They helped me feel safe and comfortable every visit, answered any questions I had and their support for our whole family didn't end with her passing either. They go above and beyond to try to ensure every person who enters still feels human and not just another number, they support families trying to grieve a loss to come whilst care for their loved ones and I wouldn't have been able to get through any of it without them. Most people I know have been touched by their work in one way or another and for this I will always do everything I can to support them so when I was asked to choose a charity for my match it was a no brainer. Every penny given will be to a good cause, whether I win or lose my fight I know I'll be making a difference and I'm so thankful to any penny you can give as I know they are too. This one's for you nan and grandad, lost but never forgotten.
