Senior cop arrested over fatal accident involving 17-year-old boy


IPOH: A senior police officer has been arrested in connection with an accident where a 17-year-old pupil was killed in Meru here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the accident occurred on Jalan Taman Jati here at 12.40pm on Friday (Dec 15).

"Based on our investigations, the victim was riding a motorcycle while the 44-year-old officer was driving a car," he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 15), adding that the student died at the scene while the policeman was unharmed.

ACP Yahaya said the post-mortem examination revealed that the victim had chest and abdominal injuries.

"The officer, who is stationed in Kedah, has been arrested and is currently under remand.

"Aside from investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, we are also investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code (for murder).

"The police will investigate the case from all angles and will not protect anyone – even if it's our officer.

"We hope the public would stop making any speculation that could affect the investigation," he said.

Police said they are still investigating the case, including claims that he fled the scene.
