Soil biodiversity is crucial for the health of terrestrial ecosystems and provides important ecosystem services. However, in the EU up to 70% of soils are unhealthy mainly due to unsustainable land use and management. Efforts to revert this path have started, notably with the adoption of the Soil Strategy for 2030. With the aim to contribute to these efforts, the Horizon 2020 project SOILGUARD is creating knowledge to better understand the links between soil management, soil biodiversity, ecosystem services and human well-being.
The aim of this event is to share insights into the existing policies and initiatives that promote soil biodiversity conservation in the EU, as well as to discuss ways forward to support the transition towards healthy soils.
