Lithuania launches defamation probe after Rammstein rape allegations

Lithuanian prosecutors have opened a pre-trial investigation into defamation after an Irish woman Shelby Lynn accused Rammstein lead singer Till Lindemann of drugging and raping her after a concert in Vilnius in May.

Lynn made it public that young girls are invited to the band’s afterparties and attend Rammstein performances for free. She published testimonies of several other girls who said they were drugged and raped by Lindemann during these parties.

Lynn said that she was allegedly taken to a private room underneath the stage during the Rammstein concert in Vilnius. According to her, Lindemann got mad when she refused to have sex with him. The next day, Lynn said she could not recall most of the night and noticed bruises on her body.

The Lithuanian police did not open an investigation into these events. The scandal attracted the attention of the German public prosecutor’s office, which eventually dropped the investigation after failing to collect evidence to substantiate sexual assault allegations.

The band has now turned to Lithuanian law enforcement for defamation, the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office, which is conducting the investigation, confirmed to LRT.lt.

“An investigation was launched in July following an appeal by the lawyer of the Rammstein lead singer. No one has been charged in this investigation yet,” a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office has said.

Lynn wrote on social media that she was shocked to hear about the Lithuanian law enforcement's investigation.
