What is a primary election?

A primary election is where parties decide who to nominate as their candidate in the general election, which takes place in November.

Georgia is an “open primary” state. This means you choose which one of the party’s primary to vote in, regardless of your own party affiliation.

Any U.S. Citizens, at least 18 years old, that are legal residents of Georgia and their designated county are eligible to vote as long as they have not been declared mentally incompetent by a court or are currently serving a sentence for the conviction of a felony.

Spread the word

Did you know that millions of Americans can’t access the democratic process because of solvable problems in how elections are run? These problems aren’t felt equally across communities – voters of color are 6x more likely than White voters to wait longer than an hour to vote, even in the same town. Spread the word to help defeat barriers to the ballot box.
