Crowd marches for gender equality during Women's March 2024 in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite the gruelling weather, the Women’s March 2024 which marched for gender equality on a Saturday morning at the Sogo shopping centre, went down well.

Along the way, the group chanted slogans calling for gender equality and ending gender-based violence.

The group also called for an end to the occupation in Gaza.

Once at Dataran Merdeka, organisers laid out their goals for this year's march.

Six demands were laid out, including equal political participation for "all levels of decision-making" as well as gender-equal nationality laws.

The group also demanded the freedom of assembly and expression.

Songs and poem recitations were also performed, leading to loud cheers from the marches.

All the while, police maintained their distance while keeping a close watch on the group's activities.

The crowd dispersed peacefully at around 12.50pm.

Saturday's (March 9) march was held in conjunction with International Women's Day. Organisers, WMMY 2024, said previously that this was the eighth instalment of the yearly march.
