Our hydrogen buses will soon be part of the hydrogen revolution in Duisburg. The first hydrogen buses will roll out onto the streets of the city of Duisburg by the end of this year. The local public transport operator DVG Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft has ordered a total of 25 Solaris buses fitted with hydrogen fuel cells. This is a considerable investment in sustainable local public transport. The goal of DVG is ambitious – by 2030 the city’s entire diesel bus fleet should consist solely of zero-emission vehicles. We are thrilled to announce that Wrightbus has secured a new order in Europe for our single deck zero-emission hydrogen bus. German-based bus operator WestVerkehr GmbH has ordered a fleet of 12 Kite Hydroliners after a Europe-wide tender process. The buses will be rolled out across the town of Geilenkirchen. The order is a significant one for our business as we continue to break into the global sustainable transport market. Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Wrightbus, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with West Verkehr to put more zero-emission hydrogen buses on the streets of Germany. For Wrightbus, hydrogen represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get ahead in the large-scale manufacturing of a technology that will be in demand across the world. Udo Winkens, Managing Director of West Verkehr, said: "With the purchase of the 12 hydrogen-powered vehicles, we are taking an important step towards converting the west's bus fleet to emission-free drives. We were able to convince ourselves on site that we have found an innovative and powerful partner in Wrightbus." On this #TransformationTuesday, we’re thrilled to share some exciting news from our #TRATON brand MAN Truck & Bus SE in #TransformingTransportation towards a more #sustainable future. 🚛 MAN will be the first European truck manufacturer to launch a small series of around 200 units with a #hydrogen combustion engine. While #BatteryElectric vehicles remain MAN’s primary focus for decarbonizing road freight #transport, the MAN hTGX with its hydrogen internal combustion engine offers an alternative zero-emission drive variant, particularly suitable for: 🚧 niche applications such as construction work, tank transport, or timber transport; 🔋 areas without sufficient #BEV charging infrastructure; 🌍 markets where sufficient hydrogen is already available. With emissions of less than 1g CO2 per tonne-kilometer, the MAN hTGX meets the criteria for zero-emission vehicles under upcoming EU CO2 legislation. “The introduction of new EU CO2 regulations recognizes trucks with hydrogen combustion engines as zero-emission vehicles, contributing significantly to our CO2 fleet targets,” highlights Dr. Frederik Zohm, MAN Executive Board member for Research & Development. At present, the main constraints of battery propulsion systems are as follows: 💸 High costs ⚙️ High reliability 🐢 Reduced range ⏳ High recharging times Given the current constraints, ZEFES will focus primarily on technologies that can meet these challenges. In this respect, 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 will be tested on roads across Europe with heavy goods vehicles. In addition, ZEFES envisages the mapping of the main transport routes in order to identify where the recharging points are located and will detect new ideal locations for the installation of new ones, given the confluence of freight transport routes. The ZEFES project has a budget of more than 35 million euros and is funded by the European Commission's Horizon Europe programme. ℹ️ Want to know more about the objectives of the project, and who are the consortium’s partners? Here we go!! A next step in the decarbonisation of our industry. As a first European truck producer we launched a small series with a hydrogen combustion engine. The small series of around 200 units is to be delivered to customers in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland and selected non-European countries as early as 2025. The so called hTGX is an alternative to our battery-electric trucks for heavy applications such as construction, tank transport or timber transport. We have already been able to test "the new one" through its paces during our winter testing this year. The new CO2 regulations at EU level will classify trucks with hydrogen combustion engines as zero-emission vehicles. This means that such vehicles fully contribute to our CO2 fleet targets, which also opens the door for this small series that complements battery electric vehicles. At the same time, depending on the country, our customers benefit from corresponding toll reductions. Congratulations to the entire project team, who drove this project forward with a great amount of passion! #MANTruckAndBus #hTGX #hydrogen #decarbonisation
