about
Recipient of the title “Best Rapper” at the Ithaca Music Awards in 2019, Anthony Kannon has enjoyed a rapid rise in recognition as one of the most highly rated talents to emerge from NY State in recent years.
His new album “Cautionary Tales” releases on October 20th a collaborative project with veteran producer Frost Gamble, originally from nearby Binghamton and now resident in Canada.
Local media outlets were quick to pick up on the story of his signing with New Dawn Records for the release including a feature in The Ithaca Voice newspaper, a report aired live on tv news station WENY and an interview broadcast on local commercial station Z95.5 FM.
The first single from the album “Pitfalls” addresses his own personal growth. An evolution from the hustles of his younger days to more progressive paths while struggling to escape past legacies, the funk fuelled beat lending itself to the air of optimism for the future. As with the entire album, this is the classic art of real life storytelling set to the perfect soundtrack.
lyrics
(Verse 1)
Too black for the whites, too white for the blacks, I be code switching
Depending on who I be around, my tone different
I had to win, but couldn’t do it by myself like the old Pippen
We were dope pitching, they had white girl, Nicole Kidman
Smoke a pack to the face, brought a whole zip in
Take his soul, leave em floating on a ghosts mission
Ice on my neck, the rope chain just glow different
I had a fake gold Cuban 'bout a decade ago
This is steady evolution, I’m a template of growth
Said he got beef with me, well it’s best if you don’t
Checking his pulse, laughing like death is joke
Who the fuck want war with the Kannon Brigade
That’s the quickest way to damage your name
Got it locked, one hand on the game
Yoshimitsu, how he stand on a blade
Took a journey through the land of the plague
(Hook)
I’m good through the pitfalls
Fam got addicted, saw him fighting through the withdrawals
Cuz got indicted, that’s the shit that make your skin crawl
Married to the game; and these 100’s are my in laws
I’m good through the pitfalls
Nowadays everybody strapped, playing quick draw
Body after body, that’s the shit that make your skin crawl
Married to the game; and these 100’s are my in laws
(Verse 2)
Never had to front for your approval, this just how I am
Used to have hundreds of ounces, weighing up a thousand grams
Assess the board before I count my hand
That pressure have him melting like butter sliding across the pan
If you don’t do it how they want it; then you lost a fan
Put a nigga in position, he Darvin Ham
David Robinson, Army Man
Still might drop 70 on the court when I’m hardly playing
They never have enough endurance for the race
These are my conditions and terms, no serpents or snake
Cant have too much pride not to learn from mistakes
Rhyme a couple words and escape
Peep the writing on the walls
Be patient for your time; when it’s called
Have 'em higher than the stars, fly up to the gods
Who got to heart to triumph when it’s hard
Devil on my trail, send him my regards
(Hook)
I’m good through the pitfalls
Fam got addicted, saw him fighting through the withdraws
Cuz got indicted, that’s the shit that make your skin crawl
Married to the game; and these 100’s are my in laws
I’m good through the pitfalls
Nowadays everybody strapped, playing QuickDraw
Body after body, that’s the shit that make your skin crawl
Married to the game; and these 100’s are my in laws
