Keep Polmadie Fire Station's dedicated boat crew on the River Clyde
Keep Polmadie Fire Station's dedicated boat crew on the River Clyde
Why this petition matters
For the past 15 years now, Polmadie Fire Station has offered the city of Glasgow 24 hour cover on the River Clyde with a dedicated boat crew specifically based at the station in order to protect and save some of the most vulnerable people within our city. This has resulted in numerous rescues over the years, including 22 rescues in 2022 alone.
Recently, due to budget restraints, SFRS has made the decision to remove our dedicated boat crew and replace this with a dual crewed approach. This will result in 15 job losses throughout the station.
The River Clyde is a vital part of Glasgow's history and culture, but it can also be dangerous. We need experienced and dedicated crews like those at Polmadie Fire Station to ensure that people are rescued quickly in case of an emergency.
We urge SFRS to reconsider their decision and keep our dedicated boat crews at Polmadie Fire Station. We call on all partners, including Glasgow City Council and the Scottish government to help fund this over and above the current SFRS budget in order to maintain such a vital asset to the city of Glasgow.
