‘COFFEE WITH’ TOPICS' PROPOSAL
Please submit feedback regarding the topics. We will choose from 5 to 6 TOPICS

'Coffee with' is an online event in which we will invite someone specialized or who has great acquaintance with the following topics. You will have the chance to ask them directly your questions.

These are the topics we proposed. Choose the ones you consider more interesting:

Solidarity: are EU member states upholding this core value during the pandemic?
EU member states such as Italy are carrying out initiatives in big cities like Rome whereby packets of staple food are handed out at food banks to anyone who is not able to afford basic needs as a result of having lost their jobs due to Covid. It would be interesting to see if such solidarity exists in other countries who have been hit equally badly by the pandemic.

Gentrification ( potential speaker:institutions)
This has become a problem in big cities, since it forces the population to displace due to the rise of prices, creating neighbourhoods for middle and upper social classes. Big cities from the country of our partner organisations are being affected by it.

Artificial intelligence (AI) we could relate it to social media and to Netflix docudrama 'The Social Dilemma' (potential speaker: someone from Netflix?)
The release of this docudrama raised the alarms of social media users. It pictured what is behind all the free applications and services which these social media offer us, and the terrible consequences it might have on teenagers as well as on adults.

Data protection (potential speaker: institutions)
How our data is used in the benefit of companies, which sell them to third parties. What our governments do in order to protect citizens.

Youth unemployment during and after Covid-19 (potential speaker:  institutions)
Many young people find themselves without a job as a consequence of the Covid-19. Which measures are being taken to fight against youth unemployment? What can young people do to avoid this situation, if there is anything they can do?

Systemic racism (potential speaker: organisations)
In our current society we can find an open discrimination towards black people. This racism is not only individual but also it’s rooted in the institutions. By changing them from inside we can change society's attitude towards black people.

Economic and social support to rural areas in order to avoid depopulation (potential speaker: young people living in rural areas)
Young people find themselves forced to move to big cities in order to have proper education and services. As a consequence, these rural areas are being abandoned decade after decade. With the proper infrastructure and services, this could be avoided.

Green transition - Green Deal (potential speaker: private company to know which changes they are doing, eg: Too Good to Go)
There is an urgent need to tackle climate and environmental-related challenges. The European Commission committees itself to transform the EU into a competitive economy reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and the use of non-renewable energy sources.

Sustainability: citizens initiatives to tackle climate change (potential speakers: Too Good To Go)
Due to climate change, citizens act with responsibility by reducing waste in their daily lives. Small actions might not have a big impact, but it compounds when thousands of people repeat the same actions. Some companies are born from these initiatives, such as Too Good To Go, whose aim is to sell at low prices the food that was not sold during the day, avoiding waste.

Salary gap between genders potential speaker: (organisations/companies)
The gender pay gap in the EU stands at 16% and has only changed minimally over the last decade. It means that women earn 16% on average less per hour than men. The reasons for the gender pay gap go beyond the simple issue of discrimination. They are a consequence of various inequalities women face in access to work, progression and rewards.

Climate Change: Facts and myths - How young people can be the pioneers in saving the planet for future generations

Young people are the voice of the environment, they’re the ones on the frontlines of the so-called green transition. Now, what exact measures, on an individual and collective level are feasible to implement? Are electric vehicles the answer? Given the fact that the production of them pollute more on average than a petrol-based vehicle. Is reducing the meat consumption an answer? If so, what would be a sustainable diet? Many questions with not yet clear answers on what really helps the environment in these dire times.

Antidote for peace: Dialogue, understanding and respect.
Europe has faced throughout the years many wars and conflicts, but the most recent one was only 20-30 years ago, of which a large amount of the Balkan population still remember vividly until today. A conversation about the reconstruction of dialogue, peace and common understanding of people on a local level, for them to start the peacebuilding process. We might not be able to influence politics, but if people can see this dreadful war under a different light, some repairs between both sides might be something to hope for. The point is to hear testimonies of people that have lived other conflicts so we can understand all the misery and suffering that come out of wars.

Queer Refugees: The untold stories
We hear a lot about war refugees, especially since 2015. But refugees, come from different places, have different stories and reasons to flee their home countries. One specific group of people of which we don’t hear enough, or at all, are the queer refugees. This group is still being persecuted in many parts around the globe, and sometimes nearer than one might expect.

Youth Participation during COVID times
How are young people participating in their local communities or spaces during the pandemic. What are the new challenges that they are dealing with and what are the long term consequences? What are the main differences and how are they coping with that? Do they feel/find responses to participate? How were these participatory spaces adjusted?

Quality of Democracy
New movements are rising and democracy is facing enormous challenges, where some human rights are being denied. Are young people aware of these “trends”? Are they informed? What is their role and how can they take the lead in order to increase the quality of democracy? How can youth fight populism and have communities more aware of its effects?

Youth Initiatives
Lockdown and the “new normal” created different needs to several target groups. Youth, in Europe, organized different initiatives/events/movements to create responses in various fields. How were these initiatives created? What was the trigger to organizing it and how was youth supported? What can we learn from this process and how can we build more resilient communities/young people in order to prepare them for extraordinary times like the one that we are living now?

‘My generation is better than yours’ – intergenerational discussion on the topics of activism, citizen movements, influence of pop-culture on everyday life and youth movements etc.
