The Mater Hospital had announced a number of road closures today.

Rolling road closures will be in place on Eccles Street until 2pm this afternoon as part of the exercise. A spokesperson for the Mater Hospital explained: "Today, the Mater Hospital is taking part in a training exercise which will involve the transfer of a “patient” with a High Consequence Infectious Disease.

"To facilitate the simulation, there will be rolling road closures on Eccles Street between 10am and 2pm. The #Mater has been working closely with our colleagues in @gardainfo and @HSELive in preparation for the short diversions which will be in place."

The spokesperson continued: "We would like to reassure patients that hospital services for those attending the #Mater will not be affected. Simulations are an important part of preparedness for the National Isolation Unit based at the #Mater. These training exercises prepare our dedicated staff for the threat of new and re-emerging High Consequence Infectious Disease.

"We thank the public and our partners involved in this simulation for their cooperation."
