Motorist charged with reckless driving resulting in teen siblings' deaths


SUNGAI SIPUT: A sub-contractor has been charged with reckless driving that resulted in the deaths of two brothers.

Lee Kin Peng, 52, from Salak Utara here, pleaded not guilty after the charges under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 were read to him before Magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan here on Tuesday (April 9).

Lee is said to have committed the offences, resulting in the deaths of Ahmad Zuhal Norazlan, 17, and his brother Ahmad Marikh, 13, at KM38 Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Kangsar between 7am and 7.15am on Friday (April 5).

If convicted, he faces between five and 10 years' jail and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 for each charge.

Deputy public prosecutor S. Vitthiyeswary requested bail of RM10,000 for each charge, to be paid by a relative of the accused.

She also asked for additional conditions that Lim report to the nearest police station once a month, surrender his passport to the court, and has no contact with the witnesses.

Lee's lawyer S. Morgan asked for lower bail of RM5,000 for both charges as his client, who is married with three schoolgoing children, only earns about RM2,000 a month.

Nurul Asyifa set bail at RM6,000 for both charges and ordered Lee to report to the nearest police station once a month until the trial is over.

Lee was also ordered to surrender his passport and not to disturb any witnesses.

She also set June 11 for case mention.
