Urgent Call to Action

Gaza has become a mass grave for women and children, with newborn babies dying of starvation and lack of medical supplies due to the ongoing war. My dear friend Mohammad Safi has exhausted all other means and his wife, Mona, is pregnant with a baby that is soon to come to this world. Mohammed's family consists of himself, his wife Mona, their yet-to-be-born child, his mother, and his brother Ahmed. There are no more hospitals in Gaza, and the already severe famine worsens by the day, which means once the child is born, his/her chance of survival is minimal. We are running this campaign to bring Mohammed and Mona's family out of Gaza into safety, and to save the child.

Who Am I?

My name is Guangtian Ha. I work as a professor in a US university. I am running this campaign to raise funds on behalf of Mohammed to save his family and bring them to safety.

Why Do We Need This Amount

The amount of money accepted by Egyptian officials and private agents to allow them to cross the border is $5,000-$10,000 per person and the price fluctuates daily. Once in Egypt, the family will have zero income and they will need emergency funds to cover daily expenses including rent, food, clothes, and other basic necessities. The medical costs for delivering the baby also weigh heavily on the family who has lost everything in the war.

Mohammed's Own Message

My wife, Mona, and I have been through so much in the past few months: we went from being a successful, happy couple with promising careers to losing everything we had worked for. The current attack on Gaza has not only taken away our jobs as dentists, but also destroyed our home. Just when we thought all hope was lost, we received news that Mona was pregnant again after suffering a miscarriage only a few months before the attack due to preeclampsia and severe hypertension. News of Mona’s pregnancy was a ray of light in the darkness, a glimmer of hope that brought us back from the brink of despair. We cling to this new life growing inside Mona as a symbol of resilience and strength. But her safe delivery depends on remaining healthy and having access to medical care. The situation for women (and especially pregnant women) in Gaza is terrible, from war trauma to lack of proper parental care to getting c sections without anesthesia to the constant fear of being killed or losing a loved one. We’ve decided we need to leave Gaza to protect our coming child and help my dear wife, Mona, receive proper medical care. Because the food situation in Gaza is very desperate, Mona now is struggling with anemia, which is very dangerous to her. Despite the challenges we faced, we are determined to rebuild our lives. Our story is not limited to my wife, my yet-to-be-born child and me. My mother, who is in her 60s, struggles with diabetes and high blood pressure, and she needs surgery on her back. In addition, my brother Ahmed, who is in his 20s and also works as a dentist, lost his job due to the attack. Our workplaces have all been bombed and we urgently need to leave Gaza, which is very hard for us—but we have no other way to reclaim our professional and personal lives. With renewed determination, we set up this campaign to rebuild our lives, dreams, and aspirations. Mona, my mother, Ahmed, and I are planning to travel to Egypt, and need to pay $5000 per person to Ya Hala company to cross the border. In addition, we will need to pay for living expenses and rent once we arrive. Our love for each other has weathered the storm, and now we are awaiting the arrival of our first child. We are filled with hope for a brighter tomorrow.
