Our Town Scratch Night fundraiser for CALM

‘Our Town’ Scratch night is a fundraiser in support of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). We will be showcasing a variety of acts: original music, poetry, sketch comedy and more. Please note, there will be a filming team present for some of this event- please get in contact if you’d like to get involved/ need more info. ABOUT ‘OUR TOWN’ ‘Our Town’ Is a documentary about mental health and community at the University of Cambridge. We are holding this event as an end sequence to the documentary, to show how many students show up not only for a good cause, but for each other. In the documentary, we will be exploring the institutional structures in place for mental health aid, asking the questions of what’s going right and what’s going wrong. We will be interviewing students about their personal experiences with asking for help at the university as well as diving into the pockets of community we turn to for help when the institution fails us. The fundamental message of the documentary is one of love, care, togetherness and community and we hope this shines through with our event. ABOUT THE CHARITY The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is taking a stand about suicide, never shying away from the difficult conversations. ‘we’re taking a stand against suicide. That means standing against feeling shit, standing up to stereotypes and standing together to show life is always worth living.125 lives are lost every week to suicide. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. We exist to change this.’
They provoke conversation, run life saving services and bring people together so they reject living miserably. This charity has had a lot of personal significance to members of the ‘Our Town’ team, and we align with their message completely.
