Sanjay Nirupam expelled from Congress
Congress today expelled its leader Sanjay Nirupam from the party for six years over anti-party activities after his recent remarks targeting Maha Vikas Aghadi ally Shiv Sena (UBT).
Earlier the party dropped from its star campaigners in Maharashtra for the Lok Sabha elections following which the former MP launched a sharp attack, saying since the party is experiencing a “serious financial crisis”, it should utilise the stationery and energy to save itself.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday reserved verdict on a plea by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) case. The PMLA case is related to Delhi liquor policy scam case.
Arvind Kejriwal is under judicial custody. The Delhi CM was taken into custody by ED on March 21 night. A day later, he was remanded to six days ED custody later on exteded by further four days. On APril 1, AAP convenor was remanded to judicial custody till April 15.

Two farmers electrocuted to death in Nagpur district
Two farmers died after being electrocuted while repairing a submersible motor supplying water to their farms in a village in Nagpur district, police officials said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday at Khursapar village under Kalmeshwar police station limits, around 40 km from Nagpur city. The farmers ventured to repair a malfunctioning submersible motor at a lake and died from electric shock, said the officials, adding a case of accidental death was registered by police.

Tigress found dead in Pench reserve in Maharashtra
A tigress was found dead in Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday. Authorities received information about the tigress vomiting and then falling unconscious by the side of a tourist track in compartment 531, East Kutumba beat of East Pench Range, around 6 pm on Monday.
When a team of officials reached the spot, she was found dead. All her external organs were intact and no injury was found on the body, said PTR Deputy Director Prabhu Nath Shukla in a press release.

LS polls: Special holiday for Punjab govt employees from J-K, Raj on Apr 19
Registered voters of Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan working in government establishments in Punjab are eligible for a special holiday on April 19 to go and exercise their franchise in their respective states for the Lok Sabha polls, an official said on Tuesday.
These establishments are government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions, according to a statement. A special holiday has been declared for voters from Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan who are employed in Punjab to allow them to cast their votes in their respective states in the first phase of polling on April 19 (Friday).
A holiday has also been declared in these government establishments in Punjab for June 1, when 13 of the state's Lok Sabha seats will go to polls, the statement said. Like in the case of voters from Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, special holiday will also be applicable to those from Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, where polling will also take place on June 1 (Saturday), the last phase of the elections.

Security forces hold flag marches in Jammu; LG reviews preparedness for upcoming festivals
Police and security forces on Tuesday conducted flag marches in various districts of the Jammu region to instil a sense of security among voters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, officials said. The Lok Sabha polls in the Union Territory will be held in five phases on April 19 (Udhampur), April 26 (Jammu), May 7 (Anantnag-Rajouri), May 13 (Srinagar) and May 20 (Baramulla). The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
The marches were conducted by the district police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in various districts, including Samba, Poonch and Udhampur, the officials said, PTI reported.

Defence exports scaled to unprecedented heights, says Rajnath; PM calls it monumental achievement
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said the country's defence exports have scaled to "unprecedented heights" and crossed Rs 21,000 crore for the "first time" in the history of independent India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a "monumental achievement" in the defence sector and "manifestation of our nation's growing capabilities".
The defence ministry in a statement on Monday said defence exports have touched a record Rs 21,083 crore (approximately USD 2.63 billion) in the financial year 2023-24, a growth of 32.5 per cent over the last fiscal when the figure was Rs 15,920 crore. The recent figures indicate that defence exports have grown by "31 times in the last 10 years as compared to FY 2013-14".
