With a 42% drop in funding between 2022 and 2023 (source: The Deal 2023, Beauhurst), the importance of fostering strong investor relationships is a HOT topic right now. We were fortunate enough to be part of the discussion at a recent dinner hosted by The Bessemer Society; this was our value-add message to the entrepreneurs there (and sharing here): Humanise your investors. (i.e. don't hate them!). This means accept, forgive and empathise with their motivations. This isn't about niceness. As leaders, you perform better when you do this. You're less likely to be patronising, avoid questions, be defensive or long-winded. You get focussed, trusting, concise and impactful. => They feel trust and respect. 🔎 CASE STUDY: Big ambitions need outstanding leadership: Bramble Energy Limited Bramble Energy is a Hydrogen-economy Fuel Cell disruptor, receiver of the 2023 Gateley Business Transformation of the Year Award by The Lloyds Bank British Business Excellence Awards. 🚘 Achieving some major technical milestones (especially during 2022 with their PCB-X™ platform), created both the opportunity and need for Bramble to move strongly into a commercialisation phase. Horizon37 delivered two leadership programmes over two years (2021-23), and in the same period Bramble raised £43 million and quadrupled their headcount. 📊 Their overall "Readiness to scale" grew by 16 percentage points (from 46% to 62%), with "Giving and receiving feedback" being the fastest growing component, from 37% to 62%.
