Peter Dutton, who accused Premier Palaszczuk of protecting paedophiles in 2020, considers suing Labor MP who accused him of protecting paedophiles

Peter Dutton is shooting of his mouth playing the victim and considering filing for defamation again but this time suing a federal Labor MP.

Dutton must have a short memory because when he sued Twitter user Shane Bazzi in 2021 he won the case but ended up out of pocket because he abused the system.  (Click here to read more) Shane Bazzi then won an appeal (Click here to read more)

But they settled with Peter Dutton dropping his attempted high court appeal and the Shane Bazzi ceasing a bid for costs. The bottom line for Peter Dutton in suing Shane Bazzi is he wasted big dollars on a frivolous defamation case which he ultimately lost. (Click here to read more)

The ABC reported on Thursday (30/11/23)

The government passed new laws two weeks ago to impose ankle monitoring bracelets and curfews on all people unless the minister decided a person did not pose a risk to the community. This week the government introduced further laws, which Immigration Minister Andrew Giles declared would “reinforce those initial amendments”.

But the opposition opposed the legislation, arguing the measures didn’t go far enough.

That led Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil to accuse the opposition of being weak on community safety.

“On Monday we saw the opposition, led by the leader of the opposition, come into the parliament and vote to protect paedophiles over children,” she told parliament on Wednesday. They voted to protect paedophiles over children.”

“There was nothing objectionable in that bill, yet Labor’s attempt to criminalise paedophiles loitering near schools was voted against by the leader of the opposition.”

Government minister Anika Wells took the accusation one step further on Thursday morning. Asked on breakfast television if she thought Mr Dutton was a protector of paedophiles she responded: “Yes”.

She doubled down when asked a second time. “Peter Dutton did not support laws that we brought in earlier this week to make it a criminal offence for convicted paedophiles to go near schools,” she told Channel Nine. (Click here to read more)

Peter Dutton has demanded an apology from the Labor MP’s and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

While Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil is protected from being sued for defamation because she said what she did in parliament, Anika Wells could be sued because she made her comments outside parliament.

It would be a very weak defamation lawsuit if Dutton did sue Anika Wells, and with the new defamation laws he would have to prove “serious harm” which would be hard to do. How could Dutton prove what Anika Wells said in a few words on TV damaged his reputation?

Other media have also reported the issue but none I have seen have reported the hypocrisy of Peter Dutton where he has accused others of protecting paedophiles and sex offenders but when he is accused of the same, he either sues for defamation or threatens to sue.

I wrote about Peter Dutton’s hypocrisy on this exact issue in April 2021 in an article titled “Peter Dutton, who accused QLD Premier Palaszczuk of “siding with and protecting paedophiles and sex offenders” sues a Twitter user for calling him a “rapist apologist”” which starts off:

Peter Dutton has followed through with his threat to sue social media users for defamation by starting proceedings against Twitter user Shane Bazzi for calling Dutton a “rapist apologist”.

But there is a video and a Twitter message below of Peter Dutton saying, “QLD Premier Palaszczuk should be shamed into joining a federal push for a public sex offender register” and asking “why Premier Palaszczuk is siding with and protecting paedophiles and sex offenders is just beyond anyone’s comprehension and it is for her to explain”. I published the below video on YouTube on Saturday (2/11/23) and it starts off with Peter Dutton in 2020 saying: “Why Premier Palaszczuk is siding with and protecting paedophiles and sex offender is just beyond anyone’s comprehension it’s for her to explain”. The video then shows Peter Dutton on Nine’s Today Show on Friday (1/12/23) complaining about Labor calling him a paedophile protector and wanting an apology and confirming he might sue for defamation.

In the article I published about Peter Dutton’s hypocrisy in April 2021 I also published the below screenshot of Peter Dutton’s Tweet in 2020 attacking Premier Palaszczuk. That Tweet has now disappeared from Peter Dutton’s Twitter account so he must have deleted it soon afterwards. But I Tweeted the copy I have on Friday (1/12/23). (Click here to see my Tweet)

Peter Dutton - Slanders the QLD Premier

It must be remembered that Peter Dutton and former Liberal Prime Ministers John Howard and Tony Abbott attended George Pell’s funeral in February 2023. If Peter Dutton didn’t want to be accused of supporting paedophiles the last place he should have gone is Pell’s funeral given Pell oversaw a Church full of paedophile priests. Bruce Lehrmann at a Liberal function on Thursday (30/11/23)

Bruce Lehrmann was at a Liberal Party fundraiser on Thursday night in Sydney attended by Deputy Liberal leader Sussan Ley. But of course, no one knew how Lehrmann managed to get invited. (Click here to read more)

Bruce Lehrmann at Liberal Party fundraiser

A day later after some bad publicity on social media a story appeared saying:

Liberal Party stalwart Paul Haege has revealed that he invited Bruce Lehrmann as a house guest at his sprawling $50 million mansion for a Liberal fundraiser, but denied he is a secret donor quipping: “Getting money out of me is not easy, ask my wife.” (Click here to read more)

Given Bruce Lehrmann is facing 2 rape charges in Toowoomba, and he is in the middle of a defamation case where Channel 10 and Lisa Wilkinson are running a truth defence that he raped Brittany Higgins, it’s amazing how people in the Liberal Party think it’s good to associate publicly with Bruce Lehrmann.

What does Peter Dutton think about Bruce Lehrmann being at a Liberal Party fundraiser and was it because he is “choosing to side with sex offenders” as he accused Qld Premier Palaszczuk of doing? Or is siding with an “alleged” sex offender ok for Peter Dutton and the Liberals?

If Dutton keeps on demanding an apology from Labor MPs and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, I wonder if the Labor Party or media will raise Peter Dutton’s hypocrisy on the issue that I have reported above.

You would think when children’s safety is the issue politicians wouldn’t play politics, but they do.

  1. Mind blowing that a NSW Liberal Party mover and shaker invited Bruce Lehrmann
to a fundraising dinner and the Deputy Leader didn’t walk out when she became aware of his presence.

  2. The culture of using important issues as point scoring for their individual parties is for their own gain to strive to stay in government, needs to stop all round. Political parties have lost the meaning of governing for their constituents. If the left and right could begin to see that the other side also serves an essential function in society, they could agree to disagree—but perhaps respectfully. Hatred and demonisation may be well suited to short-term vote-getting and also well suited to social media, but in the long run, I think they do considerable damage to the social fabric of government.
