Exceptional IWD takeover from Manon Duffrène yesterday! She did such a great job and I know what it took for her to put herself out there. Check her posts out below, and as ever, go follow her now on her profile. She's a jet. Great job, Manon 🎉🎉🎉 https://lnkd.in/evCUiSe5 https://lnkd.in/e2ttfiV4 https://lnkd.in/eB_GhgYt https://lnkd.in/enKAbgbT FYI – Manon is the 25th (!) person to lead a LinkedIn takeover in the last year and a half. This month is all about her, but I think that's a pretty cool milestone. Shout out to Vikki for the inspo and all the Emperor partners who have been so generous and open in sharing a bit of themselves with the world.

Merhaba, je m’appelle Manon Duffrène and I will be taking over Cam’s LinkedIn today. I actually volunteered to do this, forgetting my very real fear/incapability of writing anything longer than an Instagram caption. So, reader, you may be wondering from my very smart intro and somewhat *spicy* name, WHO IS SHE? WHERE DID SHE COME FROM? Buckle up, you’re in for a journey! My grandfather (Dede) was born in Skopje, Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1919. His parents were part of the large Turkish population living peacefully in Macedonia. After WW1 the Yugoslav rule became extremely oppressive over the Muslim community so his family had no choice but to migrate to Turkey. They left everything including their home, land and belongings.  Luckily, Dede was a resourceful man. He managed to get a higher education (not a common feat back then) and became a maths teacher. He taught for 65 (!) years and became so well-loved and respected that a street was named after him in Izmir. He died in 2019 at the age of 100 (thank you for the 10/10 genes) and I miss him every day. My grandmother (Anneanne) was born in Edessa, Greece in 1923. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the Treaty of Lausanne declared there would be a “population exchange” between the Muslim Turkish population in Greece and the Greek Orthodox population in Turkey. Two million people were uprooted and literally moved into each other's houses with no warning. They travelled by foot, train and sea and the journey was horrifying for all.  Anneanne and her family had to leave their life behind and were forbidden from going back.  She met Dede on the train to school (it was 1939 folks…) and they were married for 66 years until she passed away in 2007. She was the best cook (her börek was my fave) and the most gentle & caring woman. My French side of the family’s story is way more chill. Both my grandparents were born in Provence in 1930. They met in a cute restaurant whilst my nan was working for the post office cruising from village to village on her moped. She then became Mayor of her village in Sérignan-du-Comtat (girl boss!). We’ve just celebrated her 93rd birthday 😊 My grandad worked as a viticulturist his whole life (what a cliché; I’m French and my family were winemakers… I’m not mad about it). He had a passion for hunting wild boars and playing pétanque, he led a good life but died way before his time, aged 59. So, my Turkish mum and my French dad were both just chilling and then simultaneously thought “Hmm we want to leave these amazingly warm countries with the most delicious food and go to ENGLAND where it RAINS and people eat MUSHY PEAS!”. They both moved to London in 1983 to work as radio journalists at the BBC World Service. They met at the canteen, got married, had my sister (trial run) and then had me and HERE WE ARE. They are divorced now lol. Now you’ve learnt a bit more about me I hope you’re excited for my next posts which will be as great and funny as this one.
