Guinness World Records 2024 winners include Tommy the world's tallest steer, an enormous haul of Care Bears and a woman who did 13 horseback standing jumps in just 30 seconds

  • Nicholas Cherrywood listed for his Care Bears memorabilia haul of 1,234 items

The world's tallest steer, an enormous haul of Care Bears memorabilia and a woman who did thirteen horseback standing jumps in 30 seconds are among those who have picked up a Guinness World Record gong for 2024.

A total of 2,638 records are in the latest edition of the book, which features more than 80 per cent of new and updated records.

Among those are 13-year-old Tommy the steer from Massachusetts, who is 6ft 1in tall.

The purebred Brown Swiss's owner, Fred, described him as a 'gentle giant' and is strictly a pet. He wolfs down 13kg of dry grain and 31kg of hay – the combined equivalent weight of a baby hippopotamus – and guzzles between 114 to 151 litres of water every day.

The mammoth steer amassed a TikTok following since the pandemic and one of these followers tipped him to be potentially the tallest in the world.

Ginny MacColl, 71, from the US, started competing in ninja tournaments several years ago and now holds the record for the oldest female competitive ninja athlete.

Amir Menendez, 14, from California is the proud owner of the largest afro on a male, which is over 19 centimetres high and more than 24 centimetres wide.

This year, over 30,000 applicants submitted their achievements.

But only 2,638 records were selected for this year's edition.

The annual collection of records has run since 1955, when it was first inspired by the question 'What's the fastest game bird in Europe?'

Its 74th edition is themed around water with a number of records celebrated, including those set by impressive marine creatures, adventurous sailors and record-breaking lakes, rivers and icescapes.

Over 80 per cent of the records included this year are either new or updated.

Craig Glenday, the editor in chief at Guinness World Records, said: 'Only a small percentage of claims have made it through the selection process, so the 2,638 records featured in the book really are the cream of this year's crop.

'I say it every year, but it's the best edition yet.'

Other record holders include Melody Donchet, from France, who achieved the female record for the most touches of a football with the soles in one minute by doing 227 touches.

The 2024 edition of Guinness World Records is the final instalment with a cover created by artist Rod Hunt.

The underwater-inspired cover reflects the edition's theme, 'Blue Planet'.

Guinness World Records 2024 (RRP: £22.00) is available for purchase in stores and online from September 14 2023.
