On behalf of the entire group of partners, I can say that we are proud and grateful that the European Commission has chosen to support the GAMMA.EU project and efforts to convert international shipping in a greener direction. We will retrofit a bulk carrier with highly innovative technologies and during a demonstration campaign we will prove that it is possible to replace auxiliary generators with a new fuel system that runs on e-fuels. After proof of concept in GAMMA the next step would be to replace the main engines of a ship for a full energy transition. As businesses look to reduce their carbon footprints, HYWAY is exploring a multi-million-dollar project to transport freight between South Australia and Victoria with zero emissions. Key points: Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have a very small market share in Australia A lack of refuelling stations is hindering their take-up among transport companies One local logging company has decided to trial an electric truck to cut emissions Countrywide Hydrogen has launched a feasibility study into the construction of a "Hydrogen HyWay" between Adelaide and Melbourne.  The study includes identifying sites for green hydrogen production and fuelling facilities, with Portland and Warrnambool in Victoria's south-west, and Mount Gambier in South Australia's south-east, identified as potential locations. Countrywide Hydrogen managing director Geoffrey Drucker said the facilities would cost about $35 million and be completed by early 2027. RECARBONISING AVIATION - FOR GOOD Of all the feedstocks for new, zero carbon emission fuels, one of the most promising, abundant and ironic is recycled CO2. Captured from the atmosphere or directly from industrial exhaust, carbon dioxide combined with green hydrogen can be converted to sustainable aviation fuel, or e-kerosene. Recarbonising? In Europe, sustainability lobbyist Transport and Environment has identified 45 proposed e-kerosene projects in 10 countries, led by Norway, Germany and France. Outokumpu is transitioning the stainless steel industry and by 2025 Outokumpu's Kemi mine will be the world's first carbon-neutral mine! 🤩💪 According to Outokumpu "The three main factors to reach carbon neutrality at the Kemi Mine are the utilization of carbon free electricity, using biofuels in transportation and machinery as well as replacing natural gas and propane gas with biogas in heating. Mining machinery electrification will also be extended to reduce the need for fuels."
