Terms of reference (ToR) for graphics designer intern position at Budget Talk Global

(BTG)

Position title: Graphics Designer Intern

Location: Nairobi, Kenya- (Remote work may be considered)

Duration: 3 months

Reports to: Programs manager

Introduction

Budget Talk Global (BTG) is a social enterprise dedicated to advancing citizen-centred and inclusive

public budgets through innovative technology-driven solutions. Our mission is to bridge the information

and public participation gap between citizens and government, improving resilient and sustainable

livelihoods in communities across Kenya and globally. We are seeking a creative and motivated Graphics

Designer Intern to support our visual communication efforts.

Purpose of the position

The Graphics Designer Intern will assist in creating compelling visual content that conveys the mission

and initiatives of BTG, enhances our brand presence, and engages our audience effectively.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and create visual content

● Develop graphics for social media, websites, reports, presentations, animations, and other marketing

materials.

● Assist in creating infographics and data visualizations that simplify complex information related to

public budgeting and citizen participation.

2. Website management

● Support the design, maintenance, and updating of the BTG website to ensure it is visually appealing

and user-friendly.

● Collaborate with the team to enhance the website's content through engaging graphics and visuals.

3. Brand management

● Ensure that all designs align with BTG’s branding guidelines and maintain visual consistency across

all platforms.

● Contribute to the evolution of BTG's visual identity as needed.

4. Collaboration

● Work closely with the marketing and communications team to understand project requirements and

timelines.

● Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas.

5. Feedback and revisions

● Incorporate feedback from team members to refine designs and achieve final outputs that meet

project goals.

6. Research and trends

● Stay updated with design trends, animation techniques, and best practices in data visualization and

website design to enhance the quality and effectiveness of visual content.

Qualifications

● Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree or diploma program in Graphic

Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communication, or a related field.

● Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.) and animation

tools.

● Experience or coursework in data visualization, AI-driven graphics, and website management is a

plus.

● Strong portfolio showcasing design projects, including animations and infographics.

● Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

● Ability to take direction and work independently.

● Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

Learning and development opportunities

● Gain hands-on experience in graphic design, animation, and data visualization within a social

enterprise context.

● Collaborate with professionals in the field and receive mentorship.
