🚀 This week I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a tech conference, #ESPC, and to join a thought-provoking round table on the "Future of Work." 🌐 Joined by industry leaders from ASML, Philips, ING, Rabo Bank, Perfetti van Melle, and more, we discussed the profound impact of AI and emerging technologies on our professional landscape. Here are some key takeaways from these enlightening discussions during the round table and in conversations with numerous individuals throughout the entire conference: 1️⃣ Future of Work: Embracing AI as a co-pilot is essential for navigating the evolving landscape of work. The synergy between human intuition and machine intelligence is a powerful catalyst for success. However, there are some pre-requisites for that to happen (see next bullets). 2️⃣ Knowledge Data Management: Companies must prioritize robust knowledge data management. Keeping data up to date is pivotal for staying competitive and ensuring informed decision-making. 3️⃣ Content Lifecycle Management: Efficient content lifecycle management ensures that information remains relevant and valuable throughout its journey within the organization. Which is the pre-requisite for AI to bring you a real value. 4️⃣ Knowledge Retention Policy: Establishing a comprehensive knowledge retention policy is crucial. It safeguards institutional knowledge and promotes continuous learning. 5️⃣ Skills, Talent, and Performance Management: Thought-provoking discussions unfolded around the interconnection between skills, talent, and performance management. How we adapt to evolving skill sets and leverage talent impacts overall performance significantly. 6️⃣ Productivity AI Tools: The impact of accessing (or not accessing) productivity AI tools on individual and collective performance was a central theme. What does it mean to be 'AI ready'? This is a question I have been asking myself since my colleagues Nadeem, Tu, and Jonas returned from the Gartner It Symposium in Barcelona this year. The need to be AI ready was something regularly voiced by the delegates there during conversations, but how do you define ready? The topic of helping organisations to be ready for AI was mentioned again earlier today during a discussion around #superipaas capabilities, many of which underpin AI readiness and that prompted more thoughts and ideas. So, what does it mean to be AI ready? Well in essence it requires having the fundamental technical and organisational pre-requisites in place to enable large or complex enterprises to realise value and deliver strategic outcomes from artificial intelligence. But what are these pre-requisites that underpin readiness? 1) Data infrastructure and Quality 2) Integrated Systems and Data Sources 3) Computational Resource 4) API Management 5) Security, Compliance, and Governance 6) Talent & Skills 7) Scalable & Flexible IT Architecture 8) Culture of Innovation & Change Management 9) Defined Objectives & A Clear Strategy 10) Simplicity and Complexity Adoption of AI is not just about having access to the latest technology. It is integrating that technology into the very core of the business and that requires cultural change, not just technological change. The leadership and all levels of the company must be not only open to change, they need to embrace it. Fundamentally though it requires that the organisation first ask itself two questions: 1) Why change, what do you want tomorrow that you do not have today? - Better Customer/Employee Experiences? Improved Productivity? Reduced Manufacturing Costs? Increased Innovation? Greater Agility?... 2) What does AI mean to you as a business? - AI is an umbrella term that describes many different technologies and capabilities. Selecting the right one(s) is comparable to hiring a new employee. You need to understand the requirements of the tasks and the requisite skills needed to effectively deliver on those tasks. As I have written this it has occurred to me just how big a topic AI readiness actually is. I'll create a series where I dive into the detail of each of the 10 points above. BUT before I do, what have I missed? I would love input from the 20% or so of companies who have taken the leap and have AI enabled processes in production. #CTO #Business #Leadership #Innovation
